Few people like waxing a car but it is well worth the effort. By waxing, you preserve the shiny finish and protect it against dirt, water and rust. How often you should wax your car depends on what kind of conditions your car is exposed to. A rotating brush is one of the best of ways of getting rid of dirt. Use a pressure washer with a detergent tank so that you can mix car shampoo with the water. Don’t use soap or washing up liquid, they may remove wax. Note that using more shampoo than recommended will not improve the result.

Always wash your car from distance. Start with the tip of the lance four feet away from the vehicle. If more power is needed, move carefully a little bit closer to the car. Always spray at an angle, this decreases the pressure and is less risky than if you spray straight towards the car.

If your car is particularly dirty, use plain water first, starting from the bottom and working upwards, to remove grim and dust. Then wash the car with car shampoo, starting from the top and working downwards.

Note that while a pressure washer is great for cleaning the wheels, you can damage the sides of the tires if you spray with high pressure directly on the sides of the tires.

Using a garden hose, bucket and sponge is possible but a pressure washer is much more powerful your garden hose. Note that a rubber bucket is much safer, metal can scratch the paintwork.

Note that many local authorities have placed restrictions on car washing. Make sure that you know the local rules in your area before washing your car.

The basic quick connect type of pressure washer nozzles are color coded, the color tells you what pattern of fan spray the nozzle creates. The quick connect nozzle has a quarter inch male plug which snaps on to the wand.

Red Tip – Zero Degree
This is the pencil nozzle, it concentrates the water into one single point. This gives you maximum pressure. It is very useful when you have some difficult spots to clean. White Tip – 40 Degree Fan
This nozzle is meant for delicate surfaces or for rinsing. It is very useful if you use your pressure washer to clean your car.

You also have a black tip quick connect nozzle. It is the so called soap nozzle. It has a larger orifice than the normal quick connect nozzles. This reduces the water pressure and makes it possible to mix soap with the water.

But rather than buying a number of different quick connect nozzles, you can buy one single variable nozzle. By turning the nozzle head, you change the spray fan from 0 degrees up to 80 degrees. In low pressure mode, you can also add soap.

The turbo nozzle is an improvement of the powerful zero degree nozzle. Because the water is concentrated into one single point, it takes a long time to clean a larger surface with a zero degree nozzle. The turbo nozzle takes the zero degree stream and spins it in a circle at very high speed. This means that you can clean a surface much quicker than with a standard zero degree nozzle.

Meg tips are not compatible with quick connect nozzles. Meg tips are threaded, so you need a lance designed for meg tips. Meg nozzles are available in different spray angles but they are not color coded.

The low price makes it very attractive for those who need a pressure washer for residential use. The PW1825 is ideal for cleaning siding, driveways, cars, patio furniture and lawn equipment.

The PW1825 is not powerful enough heavier tasks, for that you generally need a gas-powered pressure washer. The gas powered models are much more expensive. For most people far too expensive to justify the extra cost if it’s only used around the house. The electric pressure washers also require less maintenance and are much quieter than the gas powered models.

Like many other electric pressure washers, the plastic hose adapter that comes with the Campbell Hausfeld PW1825 may need to be replaced with one made of brass (brass quick-connect hose coupler). The plastic adapters generally start to leak after a while. The Dirt Devil ND40015 Pressure Flex 2,000 PSI 1.6 GPM Electric Pressure Washer is powerful and cheap. This is of course a very interesting combination. Unfortunately, it has a few shortcomings as well. Like many other electric pressure washers, it is top heavy, it can easily fall over. As long as you are careful, it is not a big problem. A bigger problem is that the ND40015 has a tendency to leak at the hose connection. This is not an uncommon problem but the ND40015 seems to leak more than most other pressure washers.

But the Dirt Devil ND40015 has a number of interesting features as well. Light weight makes it easy to use. It has a reel so you can roll up the hose and it is relatively quiet. The ND40015 has a removable detergent tank and you get a spray gun with wand, narrow to wide spray nozzle, turbo lance with orbital spray and turbine driven rotary cleaning brush. Quite clearly, you get a lot for your money.
